My name is Dave Hayden and I am a candidate for the Republican Nomination for Superintendent of Education in Chilton County, Alabama. I am a teacher and attorney in Chilton County. I began teaching 8th and 9th grade math at Jemison High School as well as coaching the junior high football and basketball teams in 1986. In 1987 I moved to Adair Jr. High School in Clanton to teach 8th grade math. Also in 1987 I completed my masters degree in secondary mathematics education. Since this time I have been at Adair and now Clanton Middle School where I have primarily taught 7th and 8th grade math. From 1990 to 1994, while continuing to teach, I completed law school in the evenings and passed the Alabama Bar Exam. In addition to teaching on the middle school level I taught evening classes of college mathematics, college algebra, pre-calculus and criminal justice at Wallace Jr. College, Clanton Extension from 1989 to 1998. Since 1994 I have maintained a limited civil law practice serving clients in the areas of real property, domestic relations, probate, business and corporate law, document preparation and examination, and general civil litigation.
I am the sort of person that likes to keep things as simple as possible. I believe that if an elected official is honest and cares about the people there will be very few issues that can not resolved in a timely and fair manner. An honest person will not steal, lie, show favoritism to friends or family, and can be counted upon to do what is legally and morally right. A person that cares will work with people and be understanding but will stand firm when it comes time to do so. A few of the important issues that face our schools are as follows:
Issues For The Superintendent of Education:
* SAFETY AND WELL BEING OF ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF.
* RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT OF ALL FUNDS ENTRUSTED TO EDUCATION.
*EQUITABLE AND FAIR TREATMENT OF ALL STUDENTS, PARENTS,
TAXPAYERS, SCHOOL BOARD EMPLOYEES, AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY.
We have a right to be disappointed with many of the decisions our elected officials have made for our schools in the recent past. I say let's start now and do what is right and best for all involved in the Chilton County Education process. There is way too much good in our school system to have the distrust and negative feelings that we sometimes have. I honestly want to earn everyone's trust and respect as your Superintendent of Education. This does not mean everyone will agree on all issues, but we all should be able to have confidence that our leaders will treat us with fairness and respect. As I have said before I do not owe anyone a favor for a job, a promotion, or anything else, and most important I know right from wrong. And I guarantee everyone I will do what is right which is putting the needs of our students first.
Sincerely,
/s/ Dave Hayden
